Meet the Editorial Team & Contributors


To help give you a sense of the expertise that has been tapped to execute this extraordinary project, we would like to tell you a little about some of the members of the Editorial Team.

Christopher Bamford is the long-time Editor-in-Chief for SteinerBooks and its imprints, which publishes the works of Rudolph Steiner, and contemporary authors with complimentary work. He has edited and written numerous books, and was included in the HarperSanFrancisco anthology Best Spiritual Writing 2000 by Philip Zaleski.

Robin Becker is a dancer, teacher and choreographer. Following many years as a dancer with two prestigious companies, she founded Robin Becker Dance, which she has been the Artistic Director of for 25+ years. As a beautiful compliment to her dance and choreography work, Robin is a practitioner of Continuum, a visionary method of movement that recognizes the body as a fluid system. She teaches dance and Continuum both in the United States and internationally, and integrates this expressive, healing field of movement in her personal life and professional work.

Pir Zia Inayat-Khan is the founder of Seven Pillars. He is a scholar and travels extensively as a guide and teacher of universal Sufism in the mystical lineage of his grandfather, Hazrat Inayat Khan. His most recent books include Saracen Chivalry: Counsels on Valor, Generosity and the Mystical Quest and Caravan of Souls: An Introduction to the Sufi Path of Hazrat Inayat Khan.

Deepa Patel lives in London, where she is a passionate activist for social and economic equality and the right to creative expression. She has worked as an HIV/AIDS campaigner, a music education producer for the BBC and was Co-Director of an initiative called Slow Down London, which helps city-dwellers enjoy life at a more intentional pace. She is deeply connected to music, the arts and young people.

Lee Irwin is a Professor in the Religious Studies Department at the College of Charleston where he teaches world religions with an emphasis on Native American traditions, western esotericism, hermeticism, contemporary spirituality, mystical cosmology, and transpersonal religious experience as related to dreams and visions. In addition to his teaching work, he leads and facilitates workshops and is the author of many books and articles, including The Dream Seekers, Visionary Worlds, Awakening to Spirit: On Life, Illumination, and Being, The Alchemy of Soul, and Coming Down From Above: Prophecy, Resistance, and Renewal in Native American Religions.

Rabia Deborah Povich works with social justice, poverty alleviation, organizational development, communications, and resource development. Currently, she co-manages a national initiative designed to strengthen state policies that support the economic advancement of low-income working families. She lives on a beautiful property in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, where she offers retreats that support the process of moving from inner awareness to outer action.

Shams Kairys is Seven Pillars’ General Editor, and has been working closely with the organization since its inception. In addition to his extensive editing portfolio, he is a group facilitator and writer who has worked with innovative organizations and projects dedicated to helping heal the world, including Berkeley Area Interfaith Council, Meeting of the Ways, Creating Our Future, Seva Foundation, Reaching Out Project, EarthSave International and Youth for Environmental Sanity.

We are delighted to have the support of this extraordinary lineup of editors for The Seven Pillars: Journey Toward Wisdom eBook. You will no doubt sense their collective insight as you read the eBook, intimately inviting readers to engage with living wisdom through the process of The Seven Pillars. Now, here are short bios for many of the other luminaries who have helped bring our “illuminated e-Manuscript” to life. Whether it be contributing to the eBook text, creating original music, laboring over the graphical animations or engineering the overall eBook design, these individuals are worthy of your support!

Dr. Sousan Abadian: Specialist and teacher on how to transmute trauma, loss and betrayal into the courage needed to advance in the direction of one’s deepest aspirations.

Mary Catherine Bateson: Writer and cultural anthropologist who travels and teaches on social change, the Abrahamic faiths and environmental responsibility.

Rabbi Olivier BenHaim: Integrally informed teacher who promotes a Jewish spirituality supportive of an integration of mind, body and spirit.

Orland Bishop: Founder and director of ShadeTree Multicultural Foundation, which pioneers approaches to urban truces and at-risk youth mentoring that combine new ideas with traditional ways of knowledge.

Ruth Broyde-Sharone: Filmmaker, writer and interfaith inspirational speaker passionate about integrating the arts in grassroots peace-building.

Adam Bucko: Activist, spiritual director, writer and co-founder of Reciprocity Foundation, an award winning nonprofit dedicated to transforming the lives of New York City’s homeless youth.

Apela Colorado Ph.D.: Oneida elder who has dedicated her life’s work to bridging Western thought and indigenous worldviews.

Paul Devereux: Writer and explorer of sacred geographies, and specialist in the fields of anthropology of consciousness, archaeoacoustics and psi phenomena.

Darakshan Farber: Seven Pillars Trustee, software architect and “connecter” immersed in the arts, community organization, world travel and emerging spirituality.

Jeremy Foster: Graphic and web designer specializing in publications and editorial design and production, based in Warwickshire, UK.

Jeremy Lehrer: Freelance writer and editor focused on sustainability, spirituality, yoga, wellness and meditation.

Kane Mathis: Classical and Jazz musician, composer and sound engineer that merges African and Middle Eastern music with new forms, electronic media and synthesis.

Dena Merriam: Founder and convener of the Global Peace Initiative of Women, which engages women in peace-building activities in conflict and post-conflict regions around the world.

Weston Pew: Organizer of regenerative leadership and rites of passage workshops, as well as the founder of The Sacred Door Trail, a 175-mile interfaith pilgrimage trail dedicated to spiritual unity and our connection to Earth and community.

Julianne Reynolds: Filmmaker, social activist and workshop leader who sees film as the most powerful tool for mentorship and global transformation.

Yuval Ron: World-renowned musician, composer, educator, peace activist and record producer behind the multi-faith Yuval Ron Ensemble, which regularly conducts “Peace Tours” throughout the Middle East and around the world.

Mark Ryan: Musician, songwriter, composer and music editor with 25 years of credits in television and film.

David Spangler: Internationally known spiritual teacher and writer focused on holistic culture, personal sacredness, individuality, innate spirituality, co-creation, environmental responsibility and timely service.

Peter Stiglin: Multimedia producer, freelance editor and web and digital media designer. (No image available)

Bisan Toron: Experimental, classically trained world music vocalist and voice teacher who threads a multitude of cultures and vocal traditions with vocal articulations that arise from the moment.

Wendy Tremayne: Homesteader, activist, conceptual artist, event producer, yogi, gardener and writer who is interested in creating and living a decommodified life.
