Seven Pillars Receives $15,000 Matching Grant for Holiday Giving

Dear Friends and Supporters,

Five years ago, stirred by a deep call and the echo of history, Pir Zia Inayat-Khan and a small group of collaborators envisioned a “house without walls” that would bring together a diverse community of people devoted to cultivating a living wisdom for our time. Thus, Seven Pillars House of Wisdom was born, drawing inspiration from the Sufi teachings of Hazrat Inayat Khan, the interspiritual work of Br. Wayne Teasdale, and the cultural creativity of William Irwin Thompson.

Over the past year, through the hard work and dedication of staff, Board and Guiding Voices, we have advanced our innovative programs and further defined our focus, structure and direction, while confirming the eagerness of many allies to participate in our work.

The Board of Trustees’ recent annual working retreat was energized by our change of leadership. We voiced our deep appreciation and gratitude to founding executive director Jennifer Alia Wittman for her superb work and the strong foundation laid during her tenure. And we welcomed incoming executive director Laurie Lane-Zucker, whose remarkable talents and professional experience are perfectly suited to help bring us into our next stage of growth.

Appropriately, the transition of executive directors occurred at a salon held at our headquarters in New Lebanon on September 28 titled, An Evening Exploration of Wisdom. Forty people gathered with two of our Guiding Voices, Christopher Bamford and Robin Becker, to share a heart-centered conversation around the questions: What is wisdom? Where can wisdom be found? Why is wisdom so needed in our time?

New events and projects are planned for the future that include the development of a Living Wisdom Tour composed of multidimensional, experiential events and intimate salons within the United States and abroad, an expansion of our digital media offerings, as well as an increasingly interactive online community.

As momentum propels us toward more possibilities for innovative, collaborative programming, our budget must also grow to support this expansion. We need your help to make this happen.

To realize our exciting plans for scalable and sustainable activities, one of our funders has offered a Matching Grant of $15,000 that will be applied dollar-for-dollar to all contributions received by December 31, 2012. Your financial investment is key to the success of Seven Pillars House of Wisdom in this pivotal year.
