Alyce Santoro

Alyce Santoro is a conceptual and sound artist with a background in biology and scientific illustration. Her “philosoprops” and “subtle reality technologies” (incorporating video, printmaking, booklets, actions, and assemblage) are all part of a grand multi-media, multi-disciplinary experiment into the mystery inherent in the natural world. She is best known for inventing “Sonic Fabric”, an audible textile woven from recycled audiocassette tape. Alyce relocated from Brooklyn to the high desert of west Texas for its unique land-, light-, and –soundscape, and to explore post-urban pioneering. She is the founder of the Center for the Improbable & (Im)permacultural Research.
