The Jesus Sutras: An Ancient Message for a Post-Modernist Future

For over 30 years I have been profoundly interested in the faiths, cultures, history and philosophies of ancient China. Most especially, I have been intrigued by that strange phenomenon, ancient Christianity in China. When I mention this deep interest, the most common response is a puzzled look and the question “What ancient Christianity?” Chinese Christianity dates from early in the Seventh Century, but it has been a closely kept secret, both for China and for Christianity. The tradition, as it developed, drew upon not only Christian imagery and philosophy, but also the wisdom of Daoism, Buddhism, and Confucianism. The texts that survive are few, but fascinating.  My colleagues and I, in recent years, entered, through them, the conceptual world of these early Chinese Christians. Most marvelous of all, hidden in plain sight in China’s heart, we discovered the earliest monastery—adorned with the earliest Christian artwork—that still survives....

Interspirituality:  Tools for Exploration

Brother Wayne Teasdale dedicated his life to establishing the connection that he defined as  “interspirituality.” As he writes here, he saw true faith as both inner and outer transformation, one feeding the other in an eternal cycle.

Interreligious Reconciliation

Pir Zia Inayat-Khan speaks about interreligious reconciliation inspired by a vision of the underlying unity of religious ideals. Pir Zia Inayat-Khan, Seven Pillars' President, is the spiritual leader of the Sufi Order International, a mystical and ecumenical fellowship rooted in the visionary legacy of his grandfather, Hazrat Pir-o-Murshid Inayat Khan. The Mystical Heart of Abraham

Inspired by a miniature painted a millennium ago, noted spiritual writer Christopher Bamford reflects on the venerable tradition of Abraham as patriarch and suggests that the heart of this father of three great monotheistic religions embodies  “feminine” traits such as unselfish love, forbearance, hospitality, and, above all, receptivity to the Divine.

Creating a Spiritual Voice for Transformation

Over 150 spiritual leaders and practitioners gathered in Aspen, Colorado from November 6th to 9th to explore ways to develop a collective voice for compassion, inclusion and peace in our nation and in the world. The gathering was organized by the Global Peace Initiative of Women, and was motivated by a desire to come together to find: “universal principles that can guide the development of a new consciousness and new way of living, in harmony with our planet’s resources and needs, and in harmony with our fellow human beings. GPIW planned this four day reflection to tap a collective spiritual wisdom and explore ways to respond to the crises in our times, with an emphasis on engaging the feminine principles of interdependence, receptivity, connection, inclusion and compassion. The gathering was organized under the direction and guidance of a group of American women of spiritual vision and commitment.

In The Footsteps of Prophets

Building on the theme of planetary prophetology introduced in previous webcasts, Pir Zia speaks about the nature of prophetically-inspired action in today's world. Pir Zia Inayat-Khan, Seven Pillars' President, is the spiritual leader of the Sufi Order International, a mystical and ecumenical fellowship rooted in the visionary legacy of his grandfather, Hazrat Pir-o-Murshid Inayat Khan. Pir Zia is also the President of the Suluk Academy and founder of Seven Pillars House of Wisdom.
