Robert Kelly and Charlotte Mandell, distinguished guests participating in Seven Pillars’ Vanishing Art event, offer two readings. Robert reads from his own work on Vanishing Prophecy, with Charlotte reading her translation of The Fall of Sleep by Jean Luc-Nancy.

Robert Kelly is a writer and poet and serves as the Asher B. Edelman Professor of Literature and Co-Director of the Program in Written Arts at Bard College, where he has taught since 1961. He has published more than fifty books of poetry, several novels, and five collections of shorter fiction. His most recent books are May Day (poems), Fire Exit (long poem), The Book from the Sky (novel), The Logic of the World and Other Fictions (stories), and Uncertainties (forthcoming). He is at work on a new collection of shorter poems and a book of essays, manifestos, and reviews. www.rk-ology.com

Charlotte Mandell is a literary translator who has translated over thirty books, including works by Proust, Flaubert, Genet, Jean-Luc Nancy, and Abdelwahab Meddeb.  Her translations of The Book to Come and A Voice from Elsewhere, both by Maurice Blanchot, and of The Flesh of Words, by Jacques Rancière, were finalists for the French-American Foundation Translation Prize. Her translation of Faux Pas by Maurice Blanchot was awarded the Aldo and Jeanne Scaglione Prize for a Translation of a Scholarly Study of Literature by the Modern Language Association in 2001. She received an NEA Literature Fellowship in 2010 to translate Zone by Mathias Énard, a 500-page novel written in a single sentence.  Her translations of poetry, essays, and fiction have appeared in The Atlantic Monthly, Two Lines, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Newsweek, The Journal of Visual Culture, and The Yale Anthology of Twentieth-Century Poetry, among others.
